FNSI and PIQF

It is that time again: Friday Night Sew In!!

I have plenty to work on tonight. So much in fact, that I made a list! And I am feeling very inspired. Why, you ask? Because yesterday I went to PIQF with my friend Loris. We had so much fun, and saw so many quilts, and did so much talking, and so much shopping, and so much.....

Anyway, it was a great time. And I have a little picture show for you.

New York Beauties are my favorite, and this show did not disappoint!

Whole-cloths with phenomenal quilting!

For my bff, who is a Dear Jane-er.

Baltimore Album anyone. This one was simply stunning.

Ok, seriously. A pineapple-ed hexie! That is some serious workmanship. This one is c. 1890.

For the patriot in me.

Very realistic. Can't you almost smell the ocean air?

Ok, this one had so many of my favorite things: NY Beauties, circling geese, mariner's compass and strings. What a lot of work!!

Isn't this amazing!?

Ok, what about this!? Hard to believe it is all fabric!!

Love birds on a background of excellent quilting.

Pretty huh? Wait'll you see the quilting.

Gorgeous.

Interesting perspective and beautiful colors. But again, wait'll you see the quilting.

Oh man! This one was a true beauty.

Some fun and funky houses.

For the fall-lover.

The color, pattern and workmanship of this piece were spot-on.

LOVE it. It is not often you see the "Nativity" story portrayed with a pregnant Mary.

Very interesting political piece.

And finally, the quilt that we went to see. This is only 1 of the 4 blocks on this quilt (sorry, poor photos of the whole thing, but believe me, the other 3 animals were just as impressive!). It was made by Loris' friend, Nancy Brown. Isn't it great?!

It is not to late to head up to the show yourself. It runs through tomorrow.

A Fruitful FNSI

Friday Night Sew In has come and gone. I hope all of you participants got plenty done! I started with a nice long list, and finished only a little bit of it. Actually, I got a lot done, I was just hoping to finish more than I did. You know how it goes.

First on my list was to border my green and purple quilt and get it layered. I had lined up an assistant to help me layer it because it's so big. But, she did not show up! Some lame-o excuse about barfing children. Like that's a reason.

So I had to wait for my back-up assistant to get home from work. And, predictably, he proclaimed that he would rather be shot (in the head, none the less) than help me layer another quilt! Good grief. And, he also sternly warned me not to tell people that he sometimes, under great duress, helps me out. So, the identity of my Mystery Assistant shall forever remain a secret. My lips are sealed.

Then I moved on to a story quilt that has been in need of a little attention. I started with all of the blocks.
And it came together like this. It is going to be a Christmas Quilt.

Then, I finished up the drawing and headed off to the blue printer to get it enlarged.

More on this quilt later. Much later.

Next was these blocks for my quilt group ladies.

2 plaid string blocks.

And 1 delectable mountain. Almost. I guess I will be getting a couple of blue triangles in the mail next week!

Then it was the blocks for the guild's opportunity quilt. 2 bags of pieces.

Bag 1 = 3 little Ohio stars.

Bag 2= 1 Mariner's Compass.

Then it was 2 purses. One needed handles and the other needed a clasp and a button.

And finally, this little top needed to be layered and quilted.

I got this far when my guy inquired whether or not I was ever going to stop making all that noise and come to bed.

And so, FNSI came to an end. Along with about half of a crazy-long list.

Wishful Thinking

It is time to sign up!

I don't know about you, but I have about a dozen small projects (parts of projects, really) that I would like to get off my to do list. So FNSI is just what I need!

And now, I am off to move the list from my head to a piece of paper.

Friday Night Sew In

Yesterday I signed up for the Friday Night Sew In. I had hoped to get started around 6pm and sew until late. But it was 7pm before I actually made it into the sewing room, and I pooped out by 9:30. No surprise there!

But, I did get something done. I started with eleven little sail boat blocks which were all cut out, and one that was finished.(The pattern is from Country Threads.)

And I finished with this little top. Isn't it adorable!!

I love the Friday Night Sew In!

Little Notions

Little Notions
July 23, 2010

I believe that I am going to join the Friday Night Sew-In tonight! I will post pictures tomorrow.

I am inspired by Gwen Marston. Abstract Quilts in Solids just arrived yesterday, and it is HARD to put it down.

I am creating... you'll find out tomorrow.

I am learning a new Bible verse, and it is a beauty: The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with his love. He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
I don't know about you, but I want to be quieted by His love. And I treasure the idea that my God, the King of Kings Himself sings over me. The heavens are his throne and the earth is his footstool, and yet he sings over me. Amazing!

I am reading Abstract Quilts in Solids. My quilt group, Piecemakers, always celebrates birthdays with a new book for the birthday girl. I have gotten some really good ones over the years. But, this one is my favorite! Never mind that I say that every year. This one is my favorite favorite!!

Outside the weather remains fickle. Today is another sweatshirt day. In July!

In my kitchen there is nothing exciting. Not one thing. But it is clean, so I guess that counts for something!!
