It needs a home. I am realizing that there is a reason why this project has sat in my ufo pile for so long. I don't want to make it! So, if you would like to have these blocks for your very own, just let me know and I will send them your way.

One Flower Wednesday

It is Wednesday again. And that means it is time for a Grandmother's Flower Garden block update.
This is where I am. 8 flowers done. 8 of 100. Oh boy.

So, since my last post I finished 7 flowers.

The bright blue fabric was from Country Quilting and Stitchery in Clarksville, Tennessee. (10/03)

The darker blue was bought in Hill City, South Dakota at a shop called The Quilt Corral at Mistletoe Ranch. (Sadly, no date was recorded with this fabric).

The yellow fabric was from Windy Moon Quilts in Reno, Nevada. (10/03).

And the pink, just to recap, was from Country Stitches in East Lansing Michigan. (10/03)

In closing, here is a photo of the hexie organizer that I bought at the Bass Pro Shop this summer.
It is so nice to be able to just pick it up and take it with me to meetings and things. I love it!

One Flower Wednesday

I have finally made a decision! And here is the first little flower. That would be 1 down and 99 to go. Oh my.

To recap this project: Back in 2003, while on a road trip, my daughter and I saw a GFG hanging outside a quilt shop in Winslow, Arizona. It was made in 30's fabrics and we just loved it. It inspired us to make one for ourselves. So we went right inside the little shop, called Canyon Rose, and bought our first fat quarters. Then we continued to buy 30's fabrics from all of the states we traveled through over the next few years. We don't have fabric from all 50 states yet, but that's ok because we have not gotten very far on this project!

Hexies!

The One Flower Wednesday challenge has got me started again on a project that has been hanging around here for awhile. And when I say "for awhile" I mean many many years!

So here's the deal. My family loves to travel all over America. We drive, pulling a fifth wheel. We have been through every state, except Hawaii of course. We have also been all over Canada, and we have spent a lot of time on the AL CAN.

In the Fall of 2003, my oldest daughter and I started collecting 30's fat quarters, one from each state. We decided to use these fabrics to make Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts. Our inspiration was twofold. Firstly, there was a beautiful GFG quilt that hung outside of a little shop in Winslow, Arizona that we just loved. And secondly, hexies are easy to make while traveling.

Now, here we are almost 7 full years later, and the projects are still unfinished. Part of my problem is that I keep changing the way I want my hexies to look. I put them together and then a couple of years later I change my mind and take them apart! So this is where I am now, taking them apart again. But this is the last time. For sure. Really. The final time. Definitely.

So, I need a little advice from all of you hexie makers. If I were to fill the inside of each ring with one solid color, white for example, what is the best way to do that? Is it to fill it with hexies or is it to applique the outer ring to a solid piece? Does one way give you a better finished product?
Please help this floundering soul get her bearings!

One Flower Wednesday
